Vancouver, BC - Former University of Wyoming football wide receiver Ayden Eberhardt has been moved up from the practice squad to the active roster of the BC Lions, ahead of their highly anticipated home opener this Saturday against the Edmonton Elks. Eberhardt's promotion comes after an impressive preseason performance, where he showcased his skills on offense and special teams.
During the preseason game on May 27th against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Eberhardt had a breakout performance, making six receptions for 106 yards. His impressive yardage accounted for 43% of the Lions' total passing yards (247 yards) in that game. Eberhardt's outstanding performance received high praises from Head Coach Rick Campbell, earning him the trust of the coaching staff.
Reflecting on his preseason success, Eberhardt expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, "I think the preseason definitely helped out a little bit and gave me personal confidence as well going in, knowing I can go in and make some plays." He also credited his teammates for their support and assistance in his preparation for the regular season.
As Eberhardt prepares to take the field for his CFL regular season debut, he is eagerly looking forward to the home opener, especially with his parents in attendance. "I think it's going to be a great time. Personally, my parents are driving out, so it's going to be nice to see them after the game," he shared. Eberhardt is excited for the fans to enjoy the game and the festivities, expressing his anticipation for the upcoming event.
The young wide receiver will be stepping into the starting position in place of the injured Lucky Whitehead. With Whitehead sidelined, Eberhardt has a significant opportunity to contribute to the team's success in the home opener.
