Boise, Idaho – Halloween was in full force on Saturday in Boise, the goblins and ghosts were on the field in addition to a witch's curse that was cast on Wyoming. The Cowboys went into Boise State as the underdogs according to the gambling gods. Yet, all of the chatter coming into the game was from the Boise fans and media calling for the firing of Boise’s Head Coach Andy Avalos. Wyoming came into Boise with a strong start to the season featuring several close and exciting wins including a big upset against Texas Tech. Wyoming’s margin of victory/loss has been relatively close this year, yet that changed against Boise State University where the final score was Boise 32, Wyoming 7 which is the biggest margin of loss for UW this season.
Perhaps Head Coach Craig Bohl said it best: “They were ready to play and we weren’t, and so that comes down to my responsibility… [we] just walked out there against some really hungry football players and I knew Boise has a really good program and they had their backs against the wall. I don't know if our players recognized that we were walking into a really, really tough scenario and we weren't ready for it, and they took us to the woodshed.” Bohl put a lot of the loss on himself, and the players really didn’t have much of an explanation for the loss either.
Boise dominated Wyoming in nearly every category of the stat sheet including the net offense yardage stat where Wyoming had 112 yards, and Boise had 443 yards.
The MVP's
The stat book didn’t have much of anything exciting for Wyoming, but there were 4 shining star MVPs including linebackers Easton Gibbs and Shae Suiaunoa who both tied at 11 total tackles with 6 solo tackles each and 1.5 tackles for loss each.
Andrew Johnson is also deserving because of his fumble recovery on a punt...a gift that wasn't capitalized on.
We cannot leave John Michael Gyllenborg out of this list either, he caught Wyoming’s only touchdown.
Where does Wyoming go from here?
With the loss against Boise, Wyoming is now 0-3 on the road this year, and undefeated at home with 5 wins. Wyoming’s undefeated home record brings a little bit of peace knowing that the next home game is this Friday against Colorado State University in a highly contested battle for the Bronze Boot in the border war rivalry game. Friday’s game is a must-win and will get Wyoming into bowl eligibility if they can pull it off.
We can analyze more statistics for this article, but what point will it prove? Wyoming needs to move on from this, and focus on being 1-0.
