Never Give Up: Wyoming’s Last-Minute Drive Caps Off Cowboy Tough Win

Wow! All of the notes I took throughout the game don’t matter. Essentially, Wyoming’s defense continued their streak of playing Cowboy Tough from last week and stuck it to the Washington State Cougars throughout the game. The offense came in clutch at the end with a huge drive that concluded with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Svoboda to Gyllenborg on 4th and 14. Reporters kept asking head coach Jay Sawvel what defined this team, I would say that tonight summed it up...this team doesn't give up...ever! The losses don't define this team, rather the heart and soul of each player is defined as Cowboy Tough...and no, it isn't just a shirt.

MVP’s

Quarterback Evan Svoboda

Say what you want about him, but he showed true heart and a “never give up” attitude in this game and throughout the season. He threw 21/34 for 206 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Significant Completion to Will Pelissier (1:13 Remaining):

With just over a minute remaining, Svoboda hit Will Pelissier for a crucial 20-yard pass that moved Wyoming to the Washington State 28-yard line. This play kept the drive alive, bringing Wyoming into scoring range with just over a minute left on the clock.

Game-Winning Touchdown (00:24 Remaining):

On 4th and 14 from the Washington State 18-yard line, Svoboda delivered a perfect 18-yard touchdown pass to John Michael Gyllenborg in the left corner of the end zone, putting Wyoming ahead 15-14. The play was a dramatic finish to a late-game comeback.

Running back Harrison Waylee

Harrison led the rushing brigade tonight. On 12 attempts, he had 69 total rushing yards, a long of 17 yards, and an average of 5.8 yards per carry.

Tight end John Michael Gyllenborg:

Receiving: 4 catches for 61 yards and one touchdown. Among several key plays that he made, the most important play was a critical 18-yard touchdown catch on 4th and 14 with 24 seconds remaining to win the game.

Kicker John Hoyland

Hoyland made three field goals, adding 9 points to the total, to help Wyoming take the lead at the end of the game. Hoyland now has the school record for field goals at 73.

Cornerback Tyrecus Davis

Seven total tackles (seven solo), one tackle for loss, one pass breakup, and one critical interception at the end of the game to seal the win.

Critical Interception by Tyrecus Davis (00:10 in the 4th Quarter): Washington State’s final drive ended when quarterback John Mateer threw an interception to Tyrecus Davis. The interception effectively sealed the win for Wyoming, ensuring the Cowboys held on to their slim lead as the clock wound down.

Linebacker Connor Shay

Seven total tackles (five solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks.

Linebacker Shae Suiaunoa

Seven total tackles (four solo) and three assists.

Safety Isaac White
