Pokes Battle Rams in Border War on Saturday Afternoon

LARAMIE, Wyo.  (Jan. 25, 2024)  - The Wyoming Cowboys return home to battle the No. 24/23 Colorado State Rams on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium in the first of two Border War contests this season. Saturday’s contest will be a White Out with shirt available to fans on seats in the lower bowl.

Fans can watch, listen to the contest, as well as follow stats on GoWyo.com and stream the game on the Mountain West App and Stadium App. The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Keith Kelly will be on the call alongside Kevin McKinney.

 

About The Teams

Wyoming heads into the contest with a 10-9 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play. UW is shooting 39.6 percent from behind the arc this season to lead the conference and rank ninth in the nation. Wyoming has hit 22 three-pointers over the last two games. Wyoming is shooting 45.5 percent from the field with opponents shooting 45.3 percent. The Cowboys are grabbing 35.3 rebounds per game in conference play to rank fourth in the league in conference contests.

 

The Rams head into the contest ranked No. 24 in the Associated Press poll and No 23 in the Coaches poll with a 15-4 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play. Colorado State fell on the road to Nevada on Wednesday by a score of 77-64. The Rams are shooting 50.7 percent from the field for first in the MW and fifth in the nation. The Rams lead the conference and rank third in the nation with 19.6 assists per game.

 

About The Players

Wyoming is led in scoring by the reigning Mountain West Player of the Week Sam Griffin, as he pours in 18.4 points per game for third in the MW. He has scored 20 or more points in nine games this season. Akuel Kot adds 15.1 points per game for the season for ninth in the MW. He and Griffin have combined for 18 three-pointers in the last two contests. Mason Walters adds 12.3 points per game on the season, and scored a season-high 18 points against San Diego State on Tuesday. Cam Manyawu leads the team grabbing 5.8 rebounds per game followed by Brendan Wenzel at 5.7 per night.

 

Colorado State is led in scoring by guard Isaiah Stevens, the Preseason Player of the Year in the MW adds 16.7 points per game for sixth in the conference. He leads the conference and ranks third in the nation with 140 assists. Nique Clifford adds 13.6 points per game and leads the team grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game.

 

About The Series

The Cowboys lead the all-time series against the Rams 138-102 in a series that dates back to 1911. The two teams have split meetings the past two seasons with each team winning contest on their home floor.

The Cowboys hit the road next week for a two-game road swing facing off against Air Force on Tuesday evening the open the trip in a contest set for a 7 p.m. start.
