MWC championship hopes are in the trash following poor execution at UNLV
The Cowboys looked like they could compete against UNLV and maybe tie the game up, but that was blown when QB Andrew Peasley threw an interception right before halftime. UNLV seemed unstoppable throughout most of the game and beat Wyoming in nearly every statistic. Offensively, Wyoming struggled most of the game, which started with prize running back Harrison Waylee sitting out for the first quarter because of a violation of team rules, which was confirmed by Head Coach Craig Bohl during the postgame press conference. The final score was UNLV 34, Wyoming 14. With the loss, Wyoming lost all chances of getting into the MWC title game, which was even more disappointing because both of the MWC’s top 2 teams lost the following day. The mood in the postgame press conference was very somber. Bohl insinuated that he could not put the blame on himself like he has in the past. Bohl said. “That moment might have been too big…We got out of rhythm.”
“We’re not a great road team, we’re an excellent home team.” Craig Bohl
Bowl Game Chances
Wyoming currently sits at 6-4 which is bowl eligible. However, Wyoming will need to win at least one more game to be guaranteed a bowl bid.
What’s Next?
Hawai’i will play Wyoming for the 28th time in the series history on Saturday in War Memorial Stadium. Wyoming leads the series 16-11. The winner of the game will receive the Paniolo Trophy which dates back to 1979. According to UW Media Relations, the trophy was donated by a group of Hawai’ian residents with roots in Wyoming. Hawai'i comes to Laramie on Saturday with a 4-7 record, fresh off a big upset against the Air Force Falcons last Saturday. Wyoming is undefeated at home this year, but they don’t want to sleep on the Rainbow Warriors.
Fun fact: Paniolo is the Hawai’ian word for Cowboy
