LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 27, 2023) – Wyoming safety Wyett Ekeler racked up another Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honor on Monday after Wyoming’s win over Nevada in the regular season finale on Saturday. He was also named MW Defensive Player of the Week following Wyoming’s win over New Mexico.
Ekeler, a native of Windsor, Colo. finished the contest with five tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. He also added an interception and returned it 38-yards or a score breaking five tackles in the process for the first interception for a score since Cam Stone did so against New Mexico in 2022.
He helped lead a Cowboy defense that recorded a season-high 12 tackles for loss and held the Wolf Pack to 201 yards of total offense and a season low 18 rushing yards. Over the last two games of the season, the Wyoming defense has tallied 21 tackles for loss.
This season, Ekeler has 75 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and two interceptions. He also has six pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
