Wyoming's standout forward earns accolade with back-to-back double-doubles
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 4, 2024) – For the first time this season and the third time overall for her career, Allyson Fertig has been named the Mountain West’s Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office. Fertig becomes the first Wyoming Cowgirl to receive the honor this season.
Fertig recorded a pair of double-doubles last week in Wyoming’s 2-0 week with wins at San Jose State and at home against Fresno State. Fertig averaged 18.5 points, 10 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game for the week. Fertig, who shot over 69-percent (9-13) from the floor, made 19-of-21 (90.5-percent) at the free-throw line last week, including making a career-best 10 in the win over Fresno State.
The week opened with a 13-point 10-rebound effort from Fertig as she made both of her field goal attempts and then hit 9-of-10 at the charity stripe. In Saturday’s contest against Fresno, Fertig had 24 points and 10 boards, recording her 12th-career 20-point game. Ferti shot 7-of-11 from the field and made 10-of-11 at the free-throw line.
Fertig and the rest of the Cowgirls close-out the regular season Tuesday night with a trip to San Diego State. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m., Mountain Time from San Diego.
