During a recent press conference, Wyoming football head coach, Jay Sawvel paused to commend the tenacity of defensive end Sabastian Harsh. Despite facing adversity, notably a season-ending knee injury in 2022, Harsh has shown incredible resilience both on and off the field. Standing at 6'3" and weighing 242 lbs., this Junior from Scottsbluff, Nebraska, embodies the stature of a prototypical "D-End".
Sawvel spoke very highly of Harsh's growth during his time with the Cowboys, recognizing the challenges he faced in his recovery. "I think he's a unique athlete for one thing, and he's a great kid, and you really appreciate the battle that he had coming back from the knee injury," Sawvel remarked. Harsh's journey back to the field speaks volumes about his character and determination to overcome obstacles and continue pursuing his passion for the game.
The praise extended beyond Harsh's physical abilities; Sawvel also commended his football IQ and dedication. "The way he played this past season, he made a lot of really good plays for us as the season went on and then where he's gotten to now with where he's at, I really appreciate his gains this offseason and just the mental space he's in," Sawvel noted.
Consistency emerged as a central theme in Sawvel's assessment of Harsh's development. The coach emphasized the importance of day-to-day performance and maintaining high standards, regardless of the circumstances. " I've seen growth because I see more consistency. I see growth because I see a higher level of day-to-day performance, and that's the biggest thing about it," Sawvel explained.
In his two active seasons with the Cowboys, Harsh has tallied 57 tackles, including 35 solo tackles and 22 assisted tackles. His disruptive presence has been felt by opposing offenses, evidenced by his 9 tackles for loss and 3 sacks.
With so much praise and admiration from his head coach, Sebastian appears to be poised and ready to take his play to the next level in 2024.
